Big day at the Lane
This picture doesn't quite capture it, but it was a few feet overhead
to double overhead at the Lane today. These Middle Peak mackers looked
like mountains moving on the horizon.

Life aquatic
Nicole and I went tidepooling in Pacific Grove today. Find of the day:
baby starfish no bigger than a dime.
Landing sight
Here's a new Post Office shot for my collection. The guy in the
picture just finished chewing me out for blocking the street in order
to take this shot out the window of the car. I made him hopping mad by
agreeing with everything he said, without even a hint of sarcasm.
Subtle, I am.

Ferry building
Nick and I are seeing what looks good to eat at the Ferry Building. We
tried Lu Lu Petite and weren't disappointed. Try the house-made chips!
Tourist tip: it's a longer walk than it looks from Union Square. Hop
the F train and hang onto your transfer.
Still more signs
Drum circles, the scourge of city life! Not pictured: a merchant
fending off a panhandler with a hose near Geary and Stockton. Ah,
commerce!

A sign you don't see every day

Drinking and Shoving.

Creepy crawlies
The only thing scarier than seeing this guy in the backyard this
morning was noticing that it was NOT THERE when I walked by again 5
minutes later. Yeesh!

Saturday bike ride
Nicole and I took a ride down West Cliff on a beautiful Sunday, and
had a leisurely lunch at Kelly's.

Small world
I was walking down Front St. when I heard someone call my name. It turned out
to be my friend and coworker Austin from Caffe Driade in Chapel Hill, who
recently moved to San Francisco. We had a walk all around town (and
enjoyed a gorgeous sunset) and then went to El Palomar for margaritas
Art cars
Downtown Santa Cruz in front of the bookshop. The Museum of Art and
History was having a festival, and Pacific Ave. looked like a little
slice of Burning Man.

7:30 at Pleasure Point
A pod of dolphins (porpoises?) surfaced in between sets, jumping and
waving flukes in the air. We could only hope this meant "good morning"
and not "shark!" I couldn't seem to make the drop on the head high
sets, but still a great start to the day.

Manresa sunset
After a birthday party for Stacy's niece, Nicole and I went to Manresa
State Beach and took a long walk toward Moss Landing. Nicole took a
few pics along the way with her new Digital Rebel.

Out on a limb
This was the view from my deck this morning. After the basket was
stuffed with palm fronds, the crane was lowered to empty it, leaving
the one fellow hanging in the crown of the tree some four or five
stories in the air. When he noticed me watching, he screamed "whassup!"

Poker night
We actually played cards tonight instead of Guitar Hero. I won a
little by slow-playing trips that turned into a full house.

Walkabout
On Sunday, Sarah and I took Muni down to the Embarcadero, and then
walked through downtown up to North Beach.

First day of school
Nicole is out of the house by 5:45 on school days. Usually, I am fast
asleep, but today I managed to get up and make some breakfast.

Emigrant wilderness backpacking
This is from a few weeks ago when I went backpacking with Martin.
We're at the top of the first pass here, and if you look closely, you
can see the trail winding around the ridge in the distance, and up
over the next pass at more than ten thousand feet.
